New Project Unveiled

Zagimē is moving forward with plans to brand a new land development called Sage Meadow, a mixed residential and commercial project located in Regina, Saskatchewan. The community is envisioned as a welcoming and active place, designed to bring people together to live, work, and gather.

The name Sage Meadow was chosen intentionally in its singular form. While “Sage Meadows” would be a more abstract reference to meadows in general, the singular “Sage Meadow” invokes the sense of a specific destination and place. It also serves as a call-back to a floral feature of the prairies, where prairie sage meadows would not have been an uncommon sight. Sage is a culturally important plant, often used for smudging and in ceremony. Prairie sage is an aromatic plant, primarily a green-hued grey in colour, and it can be used ornamentally in landscaping.

Prairie sage should not be confused with pasture sage. The two plants are quite different: prairie sage has long leaves, while pasture sage has very sparse leaves. Prairie sage thrives in the shortgrass prairie ecosystems of central Saskatchewan and is native to the area. Pasture sage, by contrast, is less common and prefers drier ecosystems with sandier soils. As part of the development, there is a hope to recreate a park area that will feature prairie sage as a reintroduced native plant.

Sage Meadow will cover approximately 280 acres and will include a mix of both large and small format commercial tenants, medium- and high-density mixed-use residential areas, and additional multi-unit residential buildings. A regional college campus is also planned for the area, which will eventually include its own student residence buildings. The parks within the development are expected to feature an off-leash dog park and cultural grounds at the rear of the primary development area. The community will also incorporate roundabout intersections as part of its transportation design.
